Try your hand at growing Dahlias from seed

Growing dahlias from seed is very exciting because it opens up a world of possibilities you wouldn't get with tubers! Each tiny seed holds the potential for a completely unique flower. Unlike tubers, seeds are not true to the parent plant, you might end up with a bloom in a never-before-seen colour, a different petal arrangement, or both!

Often seedlings can have trait’s from the parent plant, such as form, colour or plant height, but it is not guaranteed - and thats why its so exciting!

Sow the seeds indoors a few weeks before the last frost, nurturing the delicate seedlings until they are strong enough to plant outside. Then comes the anticipation! As the season progresses, you watch and wait, not knowing exactly what will finally unfurl. It's a surprise from nature, and the reward of cultivating something entirely new and beautiful is incredibly satisfying.

By the end of the season the seedlings will have produced their own tubers. They can take 3-4 years to settle on their final characteristics, possibly changing in form and colour along the way.
